When I was very young my Mom joined the Parents Magazine Press book club for me I don t remember her joining but she must have A while back I was talking to Jeffrey about all of my favorite childhood storybooks So many of my childhood books didn t make it to adulthood but my most favorites of course did I got them out and showed him One hundred percent of them were from the Parents Magazine Press I bring that up to tell you if you ever have a chance to get a book from that imprint buy it without hesitation They are wonderful Some of my favorites were Caroline Cranberry Thanksgiving Miss Suzy and of course Jolly Christmas at the Patterprints Each year I go to Sloane s class and read a Christmas book This year I wanted something they had never read something a little different I took Jolly Christmas at the Patterprints The kids loved it for it s old fashioned style and the way that the narrator speaks directly to the reader They really loved it when I read the editor s note and they discovered that the book was a genuine lost manuscript When it was published for the first time WAY BACK in 1970 it was already over 50 years old Very very cool 9780819305220 Adorable illustrations and folksy narrative voice make this fun to read On the other hand I am in search of Christmas books for children that actually feature the Christ It s not getting any easier to engage kids spiritually This book is all Santa and plum pudding 9780819305220 Created in the 1920s but not published until the 1970s this is an odd Christmas story A tramp a rat takes shelter at the home of a family of mice on Christmas Eve when he is scared by a cranky Santa Claus mouse in the woods Sure enough Santa shows up to deliver presents a bit later and becomes even grumpier when he accidentally falls into a pot of soup warming in the fireplace.
