Salem House Publishers 1974 clean copy light wear to covers no markings Professional booksellers since 1981 The late Richard Dadd 1817 1886 Exhibition Catalogue The Fairy Feller s Master Stroke has long been one of my favorite paintings and I wanted to learn about the artist Dadd spent his adult life in a mental hospital for murdering his father He spent the rest of his life dealing with his severe mental illness by painting prolifically This book was a catalog from an exhibit of his work in the 1990s It s the only biography of Dadd out there The author did a lot of research into family papers and newspapers from the time to tell a detailed history od Dadd and his family He was one of 7 children 4 of whom were mentally ill English A very interesting work on Dadd one of very few works indeed one of only three scholarly books I have found on him The scarcity of critical work on Dadd is due to the lack of primary sources on him Nevertheless Allderidge does a great job in providing a detailed account of his life illness and work up to what has been discovered in the seventies There are also a plethora of illustrations of his paintings the only disadvantage is they are in black and white a terrible mistake English
