It provides an interesting perspective about growth that I never really considered much before So much of what we hear and are told is that growth is without a doubt the best thing for any society Without growth a country has very little chance of achieving any kind of valuable and measureable civilizied success This is what we are drilled with day in and day out That s why even though I don t entirely agree with his arugements it s still refreshing to hear an opposing view To sit back and really think about growth and what it means to a country What it effects who it effects how exactly it effects all aspects of that country Growth can definitely be a good thing and it has its benefits But as is drilled throughout the book smart growth is absolutely essential Although he doesn t believe there is such a thing as smart growth I think it can be achieved Maybe not to the point where it has no drawbacks but at least so we are wasting polluting and consuming less while still gradually improving the lives of everyday people By improvment though I mean basic essentials that are considered universal human rights More and better health care education infastructure culture and arts Less materialism consuming for the sake of consuming Growth for the sake of growth with no or little regard as to the consequences which is too often the case is unsustainable and needs to be reversed Hopefully we will all realize this most obvious truth and the leading countries will set the example by which all can follow Paperback
