Carolyn Peterson s story of 37 summers spent on Isle Royale a National Park wilderness in Lake Superior as wife and assistant to reknown wolf moose researcher Rolf Peterson A View from a Wolf s EyeThere were some parts that I very much enjoyed I very much enjoyed learning about the research and their personal experiences on the island I also enjoyed some of the lovely quotes included in the book Other parts however left me puzzled wondering the why the author included that story Sometimes it was as if she was hesitant perhaps not confident enough to link the stories or maybe she didn t intend to link them but they were similar enough that it left the reader wondering the intent This left me puzzled and questioning Not sure how much editing was done but there could have been For example she mentioned that Rolf had paddled miles than he had driven but then she went on about the bicycle vs the automobile I was puzzled because paddling refers to a canoe which I m sure they did very much of on Isle Royale and pedaling refers to a bicycle which they used on the Purdue campus 093528916X Written by the wife of the renowned researcher who has studied the predator prey population dynamics between wolf and moose on Isle Royale National Park for much of the past 50 years this memoir teeters between being completely resonant and somewhat trite and packed with meaningless platitudes I did love meeting the author and hearing her wolf moose presentation during a recent trip to Isle Royale I picked up a copy of her book on the boat ride to our backpacking starting point and was so taken by by the first few pages that I decided I needed to buy it when our hike was through I don t regret the purchase and I enjoyed the read especially getting to know the personal side of the famous study I ve followed since the mid 90s Much of the book is wonderful so don t consider this a bad review if anything I d say it s one of the most heartfelt things I ve ever read Overall an enjoyable book about one of my favorite places in the world 093528916X Peterson brings to life her journey living on Isle Royale living in the Bangsund house and working with the moose and wolves and bones and bodies of the Bangsund research station Having spent some time on Isle Royale with the opportunity to visit the Perterson s their home and their incredible collection of bones and skulls this book provided a really interesting perspective Her discussion of the decisions she made in terms of her role and career choices 093528916X Loved it I met Candy Peterson and her husband at their home study site on Isle Royale They are kind and welcoming souls While I could NOT imagine having infants at the site like she did it would be an interesting and exciting place to raise children The work they conduct along with the teams of volunters is interesting and they love sharing their knowledge I have a few people with whom I plan to share this book Her writing is straight forward concise and often humerous view of life on the island 093528916X grateful for the chance to meet carolyn at Daisy Farm at the beginning of my trip on Isle Royale Her book is a great reminder to find beauty everywhere we look and treat others with kindness along with a fascinating account of the history of Isle Royale and the Wolf Moose project 093528916X

I met Carolyn while I was on Isle Royale for my honeymoon and she gave me this book I picked it up and did not set it down until I was finished Such a wonderful book that many outdoor enthusiasts and many will enjoy 093528916X Makes me want to go visit the island even to see what can be found Get away and be with nature 093528916X Written by a college friend and longtime adventurer and lover of the outdoors 093528916X.
