Book the divided heart summary

Kinda sad He never loved her in the third book when he dies he thinks of his wife not the heroine He sleeps with her once and feels guilty until his death he even ask for priest to confess his sin She is married to his son 24 years age gap 464 Ehhhh This was a book that has long sat on my list of paperbacks to buy I love books of all kind but if given the option of a book in ebook or paperback I tend to the former That being said when I add titles to my not available as an ebook list I know why I added it in that moment but I tend to forget why after awhile The description of this book however made it very easy for me to see why I added it Girl is forced to marry the son of a man she s mooned after since she was a child I love age gap romances Tell me But man this book It wasn t bad I will say that It just wasn t a romance to me There s a quote from Julia Quinn I believe where she qualifies the romance genre as needing to have a happy ending and I m 100% in agreement with this However I didn t think this was a happy ending It certainly didn t earn a place on my shelf titled it ll break your fucking heart but it certainly didn t transport me to a world where love wins Apart from that my other remarks are I enjoy dual perspectives in writing please switch back with the main characters and let me explore their thoughts and feelings This book deviated from this in that I would say 85% of it was narrated by the male main character Also this girl isn t big religion in real life so I m not exactly thrilled to read all about it 464 Author Susan Bowden continues the story of the Radcliff family begun in Shadow Of The Crown Philip Radcliff weds his son Thomas to Alyssa Harcort but she only has eyes for the father and Thomas only has eyes for Alyssa s older sister Isobel Father and son do not rub along and Thomas seeks service with the Earl of Sussex and life at court although on his return to Radcliff Hall one of his gifts carries unforeseen circumstances which brings tragic results Unable to bear life at Radcliff Philip joins the household of the Earl of Lennox and heads to Scotland and the Court of Mary Stuart and he s soon caught up in the intrigues and treachery surrounding Mary and her courtiers When Mary eventually escapes into England and imprisoned in the north by Elizabeth Philip joins the rest of the Northern Catholic Lords anxious to free her and have her declared Elizabeth s heir When the rebellion fails no spoilers I think we all know how things turn out Philip is attainted as a traitor and his son Thomas finally has it all but Alyssa will go to any means to save Philip Can she convince Robert Dudley to intercede with the Queen on her behalf If so what price will he ask And to what cost when her husband realizes what she s done Don t let that cheesy cover fool you this is not a romance and there s very little sex at all and quite tame compared to today s standards And don t let the book flap fool you either this is not a love triangle between Thomas and the two Harcort sisters A refreshing change to see the history of this period from the viewpoint of the countryside and how the intrigues of the ruling class affect the common folk and Bowden does include plenty of historical characters interacting with her fictional Radcliffs One warning for the reader Philip was raised for a life in the Church until Henry VII dissolved the monasteries but monk or not he is still a very religious man and the author takes pains to show it so his prayers and praise to God might turn off some readers Certainly not the greatest book out there but a step up from much of what s currently being marketed these days and might interest those looking for anything and everything Tudor There is one book to complete this trilogy and that is called Touched by Thorns 464
