Who Killed Callaway?: A Murder Mystery By John Rhodes

Who Killed Callaway? kindle

I am frankly in the mood for a good old fashioned English murder mystery And bonus points for this one include the fact that it was written by someone living in Wilmington NC I thought I d finally give it a try OK shame on me for waiting so long to read this book I originally bought it for my mother several years ago as a birthday present because I heard it was written by a somewhat local author and she has extensively read books by Dorothy Sayers Agatha Christie and others in the same genre She sent it back to me after reading it and told me it had her full approval and I still waited years before I took it off of my bookshelf and read it This book provides a satisfying mystery set in a boarding school in post World War I England I believe it was either the author s first or one of his very first publications which adds to my admiration Sometimes it takes an author a book or two to hit his her stride but this one was well written and worth the time to read I thoroughly enjoyed it but then again I m rather interested in that era in England thanks in part to the PBS series Downton Abbey The book was very engaging and describes through its context the dissolution that the class system was undergoing at that time as well as the shock the country and its veterans were enduring following World War I I find myself worrying just a bit about the protagonist Chief Inspector Thomas Ford a WWI veteran and someone you might call a decent sort of chap even after finishing the book so I am happy to see that the author has written another mystery starring the same character If you enjoy a classic English murder mystery you will like this book 9780595437771
